Re: Roland CM-64 tricks

Thanks for the very kind words! I did most of the work on this soundtrack over a decade ago, when I had considerably more time on my hands, so I doubt if I'd be up for the task today. It was, indeed, a daunting task, with a lot of manual tinkering, trying to match the volume, panning, and sometimes...

Re: Physical Quest Studios CDs and digital preservation

It's so good to see some familiar faces come out of the woodwork! And yes, the goal of this mini-project is to provide lossless files. Everything is being encoded in FLAC. Yes it is, not that I was much more than a lurker back then. As for CD preservation, FLAC is my favorite. If the recording I've...

Re: Roland CM-64 tricks

Yep, that seemed to fix everything! Thanks! It sounds absolutely fantastic now. :) Great, I'm glad something in my stream of consciousness worked. They're from queststudios, except for the initial SysEx .syx to SMF conversion I did for use with audacious. Incidentally, when I played the game there ...

Re: Roland CM-64 tricks

 Thanks a lot, man! Sorry for the delay in response. I didn't get any notifications to my email, and kinda forgot to come back... Anyway, great work! I already downloaded most of the stuff. Also, I'm at home for the next week due to quarantine over the Corona virus (I'm not sick, just ...

Re: SC-8850 information

I've been curious for a ...

Re: MT-32 User Memory

Weird! I had no idea. What do you view as the first note on the drum part? Yeah, I would have thought with MIDI being a standard, MIDI octave numbering would be too. The Rosegarden drum mapping's lowest possible note is "C-2" (negative 2). It is actually MIDI note 0, according to aseqdump. Using th...

Re: SC-8850 information

On account that I'm still very much a beginner at instrumental keyboarding, I probably shouldn't be sharing this publicly. I'm not sure what the tune is called, but it's likely everyone already knows it, as I learned it in middle school choir (unrelated to what we sang). Nevertheless the song is rec...

Re: MT-32 User Memory

The MT-32 note isn't F2 however, it's F4. It is usually silent, you're right- it's specially programmed in the EQ1 MT-32 patch bank. Many Sierra MT-32 games use reverse cymbal on the drumkit, channel 10. Interestingly, there appears to be known discrepancies in MIDI octave numbering: https://www.mi...

Re: MT-32 User Memory

I'm not sure what the Eco Quest stuff has to do with the OP, but I can say that with ECOED11 'Cetus', Tom did something he commonly did, which was to put the reverse cymbal notes into a separate non-drum channel for GM (usually channel 1)- which in MT-32 soundtracks are on the drum channel, and GM ...

Re: Roland CM-64 tricks

I'd love to hear some samples, if you can share. I still have my trusty old CM-64 connected. I've actually recorded a CM-64 version of the Leisure Suit Larry 3 soundtrack using both LA and PCM parts of the module (including several tracks with added SN-U110 expansion cards). I also have the midi fi...
