Re: Roland CM-64 tricks

I'd love to hear some samples, if you can share. I still have my trusty old CM-64 connected. I've actually recorded a CM-64 version of the Leisure Suit Larry 3 soundtrack using both LA and PCM parts of the module (including several tracks with added SN-U110 expansion cards). I also have the midi fi...

Re: MIDI 2.0

So it's January 2020 and Roland announces a "MIDI 2.0 ready" keyboard controller: The A-88MkII. https://www.midi.org/articles-old/roland-announces Good to see MIDI is alive and kicking in 2020. :) Yes, I saw a youtube video of it recently because I'd just decided to finally buy a good keyboard, and...

Re: MT-32 User Memory

I attempted to create a patch in October, 2017 with success, and I've just finished reverse-engineering my process to share it with you. Originally, I found a file by Tom that was very helpful, and saved it to How-To_Manage-Patch-Banks-With-The-MT-32!.txt. It started me in the right direction, so I'...

Qmidiroute patched for some GS use

I bought a D-05 and wanted to experiment with it by playing my usual midi playlist. Sadly, I didn't know of a way to automatically forward certain program numbers to it. For instance, I wanted to send all piano (PC#1-6) to it, while using the SC-8850 for the rest. Qmidiroute can be used, but based o...

Re: MIDI rips of Konami's 1993 Sharp X68000 game, "Akumajō Dracula" for Roland MT-32/CM-32L/CM-64

I don't think that has happened with my any of my modules. These include the MT-32 (old) with the displayed ROM version of 1.07, CM-64, and most recently obtained CM-32L. The CM-64 and CM-32L both report "V 1.02 89/Dec/05" when sent the SysEx "F0 41 10 16 11 7E 00 00 00 00 20 62 F7". Although the ol...

Re: Optimizing the sound quality for the MT-32 and SC-8820

I wasn't, I own one of those, but I legitimately thought the 8820 had digital outs :O Now I know different, I had thought that for a decade!! Well there you go. Why oh why would anyone want one of them? The 8850 is complex enough WITH the full front panel, although I admit the 8820 has some sound i...

Re: Optimizing the sound quality for the MT-32 and SC-8820

A big point that is quick to write is that the SC-8820 should be recorded with optical digital cables, not analog cables. One of the major advantages of the 8820 is its' digital capabilities. I think you're probably thinking of the SC-D70, which I think you said is basically an SC-8820. I don't see...

Re: Optimizing the sound quality for the MT-32 and SC-8820

After the post yesterday, I couldn't help myself and decided to see how defined the difference would be. It turns out to be pretty minor, to my ears, but I also captured screenshots of spectrum analysis and "Loudness Analysis". I used ardour 5 on debian GNU/Linux to do the captures, and captured at ...

Re: Optimizing the sound quality for the MT-32 and SC-8820

Sorry to resurrect this for something that probably no one notices or cares about, but I'd forgotten to mention a possible (but hopefully inaudible/pedantic) issue I'd planned to circumvent myself, if recording the MT-32 or CM-64 with intended perfection. That is, the output impedance from those sou...
