My ripping work is still suspended due to not having an operational drive, but goatmeal and I are scheming behind the scenes with Andrew to get lossless copies of Tom's work into his hands.

I got a working drive and filled in the gaps in the files goatmeal1 sent to Andrew.

Thanks guys! Excellent work! I'm hoping I can get some of this moving on my end in the next few days and publish some updates in the next couple weeks.

Hello. Just chiming in to say that lossless copies of the original files would be highly appreciated.

Very cool, this is definitely worthwhile.

I have a couple of the files for the interim, like the LSL6 Medley, which Marten sent me ages ago. Not lossless, but beats being absent.

Regarding HQTrack16, that was created long before Tom recorded his HQ Soundtrack, hence why it is in MP3 format. Not sure how the Ogg was created by Ari? Fairly sure he didn't have the master WAV for that, so it's probably transcoded?

Also, hi to Ari Stone :) You still play the shakuhachi, man? Hope life is treating you well over there in Israel.

It's so good to see some familiar faces come out of the woodwork!

And yes, the goal of this mini-project is to provide lossless files. Everything is being encoded in FLAC.

Yes it is, not that I was much more than a lurker back then. As for CD preservation, FLAC is my favorite. If the recording I've been doing were more important, I probably would have given up the online storage for it, but it adds up quite fast. I think it's terrible to say, but It's almost nice that audio CDs are limited to 44100 Hz. :)

While waiting on Andrew, I'm trying again to successfully rip some of the tracks that have given me trouble. I know goatmeal already sent clean rips of these to Andrew, but I don't have them yet, so I'm impatient. 8-)

Handling these discs makes my eyes water and my hands feel icky, because Tom was unfortunately a heavy smoker, and after all these years it still has a presence in these jewel boxes.
