Hello,
are you aware of a tool which could remap a MT32 midi file to sound quite similar in General Midi? I understand some sounds are unique to the MT32, but most of them could be transposed to GM without problem.
I'm working on a MT32 album but I also wish to convert the tunes to GM so I'd need a way to do a batch conversion...
EDIT: I've just found midicsv which can convert midi to plain text (and back to midi with csvmidi), so I'd be able to achieve that this way!

Re: converting a MT32 midi file to GM
I just found your post, and wanted to thank you for showing me that useful programmatic method for easily changing MIDI files and even making it less painless to edit by hand! Sorry I'm half-a-decade too late to answer you, but I probably wouldn't have found that myself anyway. With how straightforward this seems, I'm hopeful your efforts went well.
Re: converting a MT32 midi file to GM
hello, you're welcome
I haven't used this midicsv tool too much, but it works pretty well, I've managed to make a proof of concept to work. The problem is it's quite tedious to select and find a good version of a GM equivalent, so I didn't go too far in the creation of the converter.
Initially I wanted to release an album from some of my MT-32 tunes, but I'll release the MT-32 version first, it sounds like I wanted it to sound, I don't need to "enhance" the sound with more modern synths. But who knows?... (I've posted a link to the album project there: viewtopic.php?t=17875)
